Your waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) is a simple indicator of body shape and how fat is distributed around your body. Use this calculator to assess your health risk based on WHO guidelines.
The waist-to-hip ratio is calculated by dividing your waist measurement by your hip measurement:
Measure at the narrowest point of your torso, typically just above the navel. Stand relaxed and breathe out gently before measuring. Keep the tape level and snug but not tight.
Measure at the widest point of your hips and buttocks. Stand with your feet together and wrap the tape measure around the fullest part. Keep the tape parallel to the floor.
| Risk Level | Male WHR | Female WHR |
|---|---|---|
| Low risk | < 0.90 | < 0.80 |
| Moderate risk | 0.90 - 0.99 | 0.80 - 0.85 |
| High risk | ≥ 1.00 | ≥ 0.86 |
Waist-to-hip ratio is one indicator among many used to assess health risk. It does not account for factors such as muscle mass, bone density, age, or overall fitness level. For a comprehensive health assessment, always consult a qualified healthcare professional.
